Bespoke Black Book - A new Paddington gem: Grand Hotel Bellevue London
In its article "A new Paddington gem: Grand Hotel Bellevue London", Bespoke Black Book presents the Grand Hotel Bellevue London.
The area surrounding Paddington station is hardly renowned for beautiful hotels, but this summer’s opening of Grand Hotel Bellevue has certainly smartened up the postcode.
The boutique property, mere moments from the station and within easy access of Hyde Park, is the first British hotel from the French group Lignée Hotels, spread across five floors of a listed Victorian townhouse overlooking the gardens of Norfolk Square. With 60 rooms, it’s been designed by Paris-based architect Fabrizio Casiraghi, bringing a distinctly Parisian flair to the area.
Welcomed into the elegant reception, with its dark wood and warm, rust-hued walls, it feels like stepping into the intimate home of friends, exactly what Casiraghi was aiming for. Imagined as the London residence of an eclectic couple – an aristocratic Englishman and his eccentric, globetrotting wife – the property is decorated with trinkets and details from their travels. Paint colours are warm and inviting, accentuated by the cosy evening candlelight, with the hotel team equally so – we were nothing short of charmed by the service received.
Bedrooms at Grand Hotel Bellevue London
Bedrooms are simple, yet elegant. The warm terracotta shade echoes throughout in soft furnishings and carpets, with delicate design details like chic marble lighting fixtures, brass accents and simple artworks. Rooms range from cosy cabins to larger spaces defined by high ceilings and vintage-inspired wooden wardrobes. The beds are exquisitely comfortable, while the bathrooms are stocked with Floris toiletries.
Food & Beverage at Grand Hotel Bellevue London
A simple continental breakfast is served daily – while no frills, it’s satisfying enough – but the ground floor Pondicherry Bar is the standout. With the vibe of an exclusive members’ bar, its bold palette is decorated with tapestries created in collaboration with American fashion designer Emily Bode. Cosy but chic, a refined cocktail menu makes it the perfect spot for a nightcap.
With rooms from just £150 per night, it really is exceptional value considering its style; one would almost certainly expect to pay a premium for such a bed in comparison to some of its neighbours. It’s almost a shame there’s not more in the way of a lounge, library, restaurant; it’s certainly somewhere we could more than happily return to time and time again.
